What is CCPAE
The Catalan Council of Organic Agricultural Production (CCPAE) is the public Catalan authority accredited to certify organic production. It is the reference entity for companies in Catalonia that wish to comply with Regulation (EU) 2018/848 on organic production.
CCPAE is accredited by ENAC (National Accreditation Entity) with number 34/C-PR067, which means that its audits comply with the most demanding standards of impartiality and technical rigor recognized at a national level.

Why it matters for kombucha
The organic seal is not decorative. It implies a real control process over everything that enters and leaves the factory:
🌱 Ingredient Origin
Tea, sugar, fruits, herbs and spices — all from certified organic farming. No synthetic pesticides, no chemical fertilizers, no GMOs.
🧪 No Artificial Additives
No chemical preservatives, no artificial colorings, no synthetic flavors. Only what fermentation and organic ingredients naturally provide.
📋 Batch Traceability
Each bottle can be traced back to the specific batch of organic tea, sugar, fruit or herb with its certificate of origin.
🔍 Annual On-site Audit
Each year a CCPAE auditor inspects the plant, reviews records, verifies purchases and traceability. Without an approved audit, there is no seal.
🚫 No Cross-Contamination
Separate processes, warehouses and machinery (or validated cleaning) between organic batches and any residual non-organic product.
🌍 European Recognition
The CCPAE + ES-ECO-019-CT seal allows commercialization as organic throughout the European Union, without additional certifications in each country.
What organic ingredients does Mūn kombucha contain
Ingredients vary by variety, but all share this:
- Base tea — green tea (Lung Ching, sencha, matcha), black tea or white tea, depending on the variety. All certified organic.
- Organic cane sugar — to feed the SCOBY during primary fermentation. It is almost completely consumed: the residual sugar in Mūn Premium is between 0.09 and 1.80 g per 100 ml.
- Organic fruits, herbs and spices — hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa), elderflower, fresh ginger, turmeric, hops, coffee, basil, lemon verbena, mint, lime... according to recipe.
- SCOBY — live symbiotic culture grown in-house, without additives.
We do not use: pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, colorings, synthetic flavors, injected gas or industrial concentrates.
Organic kombucha vs conventional kombucha
| Aspect | Conventional Kombucha | Certified Organic Kombucha (Mūn) |
|---|---|---|
| Tea origin | No requirements. May contain pesticide residues. | ✅ Certified organic tea. |
| Sugar | Conventional refined | ✅ Certified organic cane |
| Fruits/herbs/spices | Conventional or industrial concentrates | ✅ Certified organic |
| Additives | Permitted (preservatives, colorings, sweeteners) | ❌ Prohibited by organic regulation |
| Traceability | Variable, not mandatory at ingredient level | ✅ Fully audited traceability |
| External audit | Not mandatory | ✅ Annual on-site by CCPAE |
| CCPAE/EU Bio Seal | ❌ Cannot bear it | ✅ On the label + ES-ECO-019-CT |
Look for on the label: 1) the operator code (in Mūn: ES-ECO-019-CT), 2) the European green leaf seal, 3) the name of the certifying body (CCPAE, Sohiscert, etc.). If any of the three are missing, it is not certified organic — even if the word "organic" appears prominently.
Why it is demanding to certify organic kombucha
Kombucha is a live fermented product with many ingredients (tea, sugar, fruit, herbs) and many varieties. Certifying all of this implies:
- Auditing each supplier — tea from Asia, local fruits, herbs, coffee, hops, spices... all with their verified organic certificate.
- Documenting each batch change — what tea entered, on what date, what certificate number, what supplier.
- Proving traceability — in each audit, the inspector chooses a random batch and asks us to trace all the ingredients it contained.
- Maintaining the seal long-term — a single unresolved incident is enough to lose certification.
Mūn has been in the CCPAE register as operator 5128 for years. The certification is renewed annually without interruption.
The organic seal vs Mūn's other certifications
Each seal covers something different:
- CCPAE (organic) — guarantees the organic origin of ingredients and processes. What you are reading.
- KBI Verified Seal Program — guarantees authentic kombucha + live probiotics. First European brand with the seal on the bottle.
- IFS Food 8 Higher Level — guarantees industrial food safety. Three consecutive years at the highest grade.
- World Kombucha Awards — sensory and design quality validated by an international jury. 6 medals 2023-2025.
No seal replaces another. CCPAE covers the "what" (organic ingredients). KBI covers the "what it is" (authentic kombucha). IFS covers the "how it is produced" (safety). The awards cover the "how it tastes".
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the code that identifies Mūn as organic?
The European code is ES-ECO-019-CT, which appears on all Mūn labels. ES = Spain, ECO = organic, 019 = certifying body number (CCPAE), CT = Catalonia.
How can I verify that it is real?
The CCPAE maintains a public directory with all certified operators. Mūn appears with operator no. 5128: consult official entry.
Are all Mūn varieties organic?
Yes. All 16 varieties — Premium (Hibiscus, Green, Verbena, Flowers, Ginger, Natural), Casual (Original, Red Berries, Turmeric, Ginger Lemon), Functional (Isotonic, Gut Morning) and NoLo (Not-Beer, Not-Beer Lemon, Not-Mojito, Flow/Spark) — are under the same CCPAE certificate.
Why are some kombuchas not organic?
Organic certification makes the product more expensive: organic ingredients cost more, auditing has a cost, traceability implies more administrative work. Some brands choose not to certify to reduce the final price. At Mūn, we assume it as part of the standard.
Are "ecológico", "bio" and "orgánico" the same?
In the European Union, the three terms are legally protected and can only be used on products certified according to Regulation (EU) 2018/848. "Eco", "bio" and "ecológico" are synonyms and require the same level of compliance.
Is organic sugar better for me?
Nutritionally, organic and conventional sugar are almost equivalent. The difference lies in the origin: organic is produced without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. And furthermore, in Mūn, fermentation consumes almost all the initial sugar — what remains in the final bottle is residual.
Organic Ingredients. Authentic Fermentation. Real Traceability.
It's the only way we believe in making kombucha. Since 2015.
